ordinary bloke, extraordinary life

“Ordinary Bloke Extraordinary Life” biography of Ashley Goldsworthy The Order of Australia, The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (born 2 November 1935) who is an Australian computer scientist and business executive.

Introduction is written by John Howard following endorsement of some of the most significant figures in Australian politics.
However, what captivating about this book is Mr. Goldsworthy personal story that he shares with us leaving introduction and endorsement to stay in shadow letting Mr. Goldsworthy personal story to shine. His story is heartfelt where he talks about his family and professionally written regarding his career. Each chapter in book starts with beautiful poem that captivate essence and wisdom of life. As he names himself as an “ordinary bloke” with average marks in school exams I will tell you that Mr. Goldsworth is nothing as ordinary achieving success and proving himself as a successful CEO and leader in a number of different occupations while taking the most of his talent and opportunities, not wasting a second of his life. In his life he proves himself as successful businessman in different roles with heart full of love for his family.

Together with rising as dominant figure in business world, politics and being family man, he never forgets less fortunate and one in need giving attention and contribution to number of humanitarian fields and make contribution in different branches of humanitarian work.

I recommend this book to people who are interested in politics, business, education and for people who like to read biographies of influential people.

I sincerely thank Mr. and Mrs. Goldsworthy for writing this book as well as for everything they did for us Australians particularly in the field of charitable work I am very dedicated and passionate about. It was my honour and privilege to read and review Mr. Goldsworthy biography. I am going to treasure this book in my personal book’s collection.

john howard and his  biography “lazarus rising”

In this detailed, marathon long and important political autobiography one of the “most prominent Australian” and former leader of Liberal party Mr. Howard is sharing his views and experiences regarding political development during his youth and time he was politicly active.

Biography starts when Mrs. Howard was ten years old. He paints clear picture of his family and their orientation as a patriotic Australians. Both, his father and grandfather were casualties in first and second world war. Mr. Howard inside biography shares their stories and world war impact on Australia from his father and grandfather point of view. Politic was regular topic of discussions in his household and through book Mr. Howard shares “his own” passion regarding this topic and how politic influence his life.

Further through biography Mr. Howard shares political development in Australia and major events in political world through world especially in America and England where Mr. Howard spend years in his youth working as a lawyer before political engagement in Australia. Between describing many important world events and high profiles people in politics he shares admiration for leadership of Mrs. Thatcher, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and assassination of John Kennedy. Event that shaked and shocked whole world.

Reading his biography further down he shares detailed information about major political parties, their political programs through different decades and impact on people of Australia plus he paints vivid picture how Australia changes during this time. He describes development of education in Australia, mostly Catholic schools. Some parts of book cover political stories and challenges that caught some major politicians: Tony Abbott, Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd.

Mr. Howard gain leadership in Liberal Party in 1995 and become the second longest serving Prime Minister of Australia. He used his rich political experience and knowledge sharing it for us ,Australian people, very generously through book. In my modest experience and same modest knowledge I will dare to say that Lasarus Rising is excellent title for this book . Mr. Howard is one of the most influential people in Australian politics and it is going to definitely stay one of the most influential people in Australian history.

It was my pleasure to read this book and learn about Australia on some new view for me as politic is not my field. I recommend this book for every Australian or person who wants to learn about our country, is interested in Australian history or has general interest or passion regarding politics.

IVO KOBAŠ BOSNIAN AUTHOR OF NOVEL “DOCTOR BUTCHER”

In his novel Mr. Kobaš  follows the story of a doctor who left Bosnia because of war and who found together with his family a new life in Nederland. Through main character Mr. Kobaš shares with us what it means to live the life of a refugee.

In my modest opinion, Ivo Kobaš’s novel Doctor Mesar                ( English Dr. Butcher) should receive a high award in balkan’s literature because through his novel he told the story of millions of people who, due to the war in the former Yugoslavia in 1990s, were forced to look for a new life in third countries. I personally thank him for writing this book/story and wish him every success in his further private life and author’s work.

I feel honored and privileged so Mr. Kobaš offered me to review and read his book between first people. Book will be on sale in April this year.

TO LOVE or not to love

Honorary Michel Kirby wrote his memoir on life reflection from his early childhood memories onwards as well as he explains law regulations pointing homosexuality and its development in community through different decades of his life. It is very impressive that Mr. Kirby as one of high-profile people in Australia opens up for public about something so personal as sexual orientation. I doubt for this book between four and five stars. I wish Mr. Kirby wrote more about his personal effects of public stigma instead of often generating as impact on homosexual community in general and writing about celebrities as James Dean. After all the book title is “A Private” Life.

I agree with previous review of this book which was pointing irrelevance of sexual orientation in community and that no one should tell us who we need to love. However, reality can’t be ignored and we need to admit that often we get harshly judged when we choose to love someone that family or close friends do not approve of.

Love is the biggest dream of every human as it was mine dream and it was Mr. Kirby dream obviously and other people dream for sure.  However, there is always cost to fulfil/satisfy this heart desires.

I recommend this book for adults’ audience for people in general to get insight in sexual orientation and its reflection on person’s life. Thank you, Mr. Kirby, for sharing with us your life wisdom and experience. I, and am sure Australian public value it.

“No one should underestimate power of human desire for love. “   Michael Kirby”

TRICKS ABOUT BEING AN INDIE AUTHOR: i WISH I KNEW BEFORE PUBLISHING MY BOOK

Well, how many times I heard: Stacy, how did you manage to write books? I want to  write book but I don’t know how and where to start.

Answer is simple: As with everything new in your life you need to start from the beginning. Get in touch with people who already write a book, join social media group for writers or through some creative writing courses.

As writing is mostly a project of talent and passion, we often ignore the fact that for many of us at the end writing a book is a business task. Book needs to be sold to people and for this marketing strategy is imperative, together with resources and skills for doing so.  Without a business plan or publisher our chances to make our book noticeable or to shine our zero even though the book/story may be great.

Before writing a book, be clear why you want to write a book in the first place ? Will this book be for private reasons to share with family members? For example, left for grandchildren or you want your story to share with the world? Do you want to earn money from this book? How much money do you want to invest in your writing journey and how much money would you like to get back from this investment? Be aware that genre of the book matters. For example, poetry books are much harder to sell than novels, especially romance and trillers which are always in demand. Autobiographies, people prefer to buy/read only one written by celebrities.

What happens during the process of making a book? Once a book is written, the book should be professionally edited and proofread. How much we are going to invest in this is dependent on our finances and language/literacy skills. I personally invested quite a bit of money in proofreading and editing of my books as English is my second language. It was the best investment money. I would suggest to any new author to think about it so I noticed that quite a lot of books get published without these two important steps. Good editors will polish your manuscript and make your story shine.  For the book cover and formatting I would suggest an average price professional. I do not like chip things, so I am a believer that what you pay you get, and book cover is important. It is the first thing that will capture readers’ eye. However, I would not go over the top. Often asked and important question is how to get a book published, with a publisher or independently? If you have the opportunity, always have a publisher for your book. It is better to get something for writing this book than nothing. If it would be better to publish books independently, then why all these bestsellers have publishers for their work and they are happy to share their royalties?

The biggest investment and loss of money which new authors constantly do (including myself ) is the website, especially after the first published book.  Websites are expensive. To hire a web professional for a website costs thousands of dollars. You will also have to pay each month for updating this website and it is going to cost you another thousand of dollars, per year or even more. Professionals will tell you that they will teach you how to update websites yourself but this is time consuming and tricky for someone who does not have experience in this kind of work. Secondly, be aware that this website is not going to sell your books. Readers will only open your website and see information about you, and they probably “never” will come back. Waste of money.

Be smart and use free resources. Amazon has an author’s page. Each reader when open your book on Amazon will click on your name. Readers want to know who wrote the book. On Amazon’s author page you can share information about yourself and book. It is not complicated to make an Amazon author’s site and it is for free.  Second free resource: Twitter. Twitter is directly connected with Google and easy to use. Once you start re-twitter your post Google will pick it up and share it further. Even connect with other authors’ accounts. Be smart and use “free resources”.

For example check  Jerry Jenkins website:

https://jerryjenkins.com/writing-tools/

Trust me, you do not need these services. If you are a writer, you need a PC/laptop and eventually a notebook and pen.  All these companies pay people like Jerry Jenkins to promote their services for writers to buy it and take money from you. Do not let them trick you. Be smart and only start to invest money back when and if your book start to earn money and even then weigh the benefits of this service and compare it with value of money you are investing into.

Where you will waste your money as an author, but Google will not tell you? Why is Google hiding this information I shared like free resources and that there is no money back for Indie authors once invested in making their books? Simply because of people like me and you who entered this publishing business with heart and not brain and we believe what Google says : For example, we can earn five thousand dollars for a first book and many other unrealistic things. Hundreds of thousands of us become indie authors who never get invested money back and get disappointed because we believed at least we will get back what we invested in making this book. On the contrary of this Google promoting services for us will earn probably millions of dollars we invested in our dream which only become partly realised.

My advice for every new Indie author is to use your talent and follow your dream of writing a book but be smart and realistic. Do not throw away your hard-earned money which could be invested in something more valuable and important in your life. When you Invest your money inside book invest in things which will benefit your book as an editor, cover design and eventually some book advertisements which you can find for very affordable price not some promotional fantasy services which benefit only bestsellers who get these services for free and probably even get paid for promoting them to indie authors as me and you who don’t get any financial benefit back from published books.
